TicketsCINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati women's tennis team (8-11) fell to Iowa State, 4-3, on Friday at the Western Athletic Club.
The doubles point was a tightly knit battle, but the Bearcats prevailed, taking the first point of the match.
After a one-match break, the freshmen duo of Morgan Pyrz and Sakurako Watanabe took down Iowa State's Valeska San Martin Ramirez and Gala Arangio, 6-4.
Court one, featuring freshman Gabrielle Guenther and sophomore Rozalia Gruszczynska, was the deciding point. The Bearcats' pair won the match after beating Anna Supapitch Kuearum and Juliette Nask, 6-4.
Singles were a back-and-forth fight, but Iowa State was able to get the edge, winning four matches. Junior Callie Flanagan took the victory on court No. 4 defeating Juliette Nask 6-4, 6-3.
On court No. 3, Guenther got the victory after her opponent was disqualified in the second set due to code violations. Guenther led the match 6-2, 3-2.
