CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati baseball team's final non-conference game of the regular season is set for Tuesday morning at UC Baseball Stadium. The Bearcats will host UConn at 11 AM.
Cincinnati (30-21) and UConn (29-21) will be meeting for the first time since 2019 when they were both members of the American Athletic Conference. UC won the last meeting, a 22-5 drubbing in the AAC Tournament Championship Game.
The Bearcats are coming off a series sweep of BYU and reached a couple large milestones in the process. Friday's 4-2 win in Provo officially punched Cincinnati's ticket to the Big 12 Tournament in Arlington, Texas, and Saturday's 12-5 victory was its 30th win of the season. This is the first 30-win season for the program since 2019.
Following Tuesday's game, UC will host Big 12 Champion Oklahoma for its final weekend series of the year. First pitch for game one on Thursday is set for 5 PM, and Friday's game will begin at 5 PM as well. Saturday's game will begin at noon.
In addition to being Senior Day on Saturday, it will also be Alumni Day at the ballpark. Cincinnati will be honoring its 1974 and 2019 teams during the game and welcoming back members from each team.
// BEATING THE ODDS
Prior to the start of the season, Cincinnati was picked to finish last in the Big 12's preseason coaches poll. The Bearcats received 21 points in the poll, tied with BYU for the last spot.
Cincinnati not only will not finish in last place, but enters the final weekend of the regular season with a chance to finish in second place and earn a first-round bye in the Big 12 Tournament. The Big 12 Tournament will be held at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas from May 21-25.
With one series left in the regular season, Cincinnati's 16-11 Big 12 record has the team ranking fifth in the conference standings. Oklahoma (21-6) has already clinched the regular season championship. The Bearcats are within striking distance of the three other teams above them in the standings: Oklahoma State (17-9), West Virginia (17-10), and Texas (17-10).
UC has won its last four conference series, including a sweep at BYU this past weekend, the first time it has won four straight conference series since 2016.
