EUGENE, Ore. – Paris bound!
Former University of Cincinnati track and field standout Annette Echikunwoke has qualified for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. She won the hammer throw event with a season-best mark of 74.68m at the U.S. Olympic Trials at Hayward Field on Sunday.
Echikunwoke finished with a toss of 72.74m in the first round on Friday. This is her first selection to the U.S. Olympic roster.
The Pickerington, Ohio native is one of the most decorated female athletes in UC history. She won the 2017 NCAA Indoor Championships national title in the weight throw and remains the school record holder in four of the five throwing events she competed in at UC. She was a seven-time AAC Champion and a four-time All-America First Team honoree.
Track and field action at the Paris Olympics begins Aug. 1 and concludes Aug. 11.

Loretta Blaut will compete in the women's high jump finals at 8:15 p.m. ET on Monday. She advanced to the finals after winning a five-way jump-off in the opening round on Saturday.
The top three finishers in each event, so long as they have met the Olympic qualifying standard established by World Athletics, will automatically earn a spot on Team USA for the 2024 Summer Olympics.
