CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati volleyball team will open the home portion of its schedule on Saturday when the Bearcats host Kent State at 1 p.m. inside Fifth Third Arena. The match will serve as Cincinnati's annual Tribute to #10.
TRIBUTE TO #10
UC announced on August 19, 2022 that its first home match(es) will be named Tribute to #10 in honor of former volleyball student-athlete and coach Stephanie Meinig-Rosfeld.
Meinig-Rosfeld was a standout middle hitter for the Bearcats from 1997-00, who also served as an assistant coach for the program before passing away in 2004. A two-time First Team All-Conference USA selection, Meinig-Rosfeld still holds the C-USA record for total blocks (593). She also holds Cincinnati's record for most games played (502) and ranks second in program history in total blocks (593) and block assists (518).
SERIES HISTORY
The Bearcats own a 15-3 all-time record against Kent State. The two teams last met in 2010, resulting in a home sweep for the Bearcats. Former Bearcat and current Cincinnati ESPN+ analyst Stephanie Niemer had 12 kills in the win.
LAST TIME OUT
Cincinnati earned a four-set win over rival Xavier on Thursday night inside the Cintas Center. After dropping the first set, UC held Xavier's offense to below .100 to win the next three sets.
Junior Carly Glendinning posted her first career 20-piece with a team-high 21 kills at an impressive .348 hitting percentage. Freshman Fallon Stewart added a personal-best 16 kills while local product Sydney Nolan registered her first career double-double with 12 kills and 11 digs. The trio accounted for 49 of the Bearcats' 56 kills.
Defensively, libero Faith Frame and defensive specialist Julie Wittekind shined in the victory. Frame posted a match- and career-high 27 digs. Wittekind chipped in six digs and an ace and was perfect on service reception.
IN THE RANKINGS
The Bearcats rank third in the Big 12 and 29th in the nation in blocks per set (2.70). Individually, Walker ranks fifth in the category (1.22 blk/s) while Williams sits ninth (1.13 blk/s).
Glendinning ranks inside the top-10 in the league in kills per set (3.39 k/s, ninth). Frame's big performance against Xavier moved her into fifth in the Big 12 in digs per set (4.30). She averaged a massive 6.75 digs per set vs. the Musketeers.
