Cincinnati Defeats Morehead State, Picks Up Fifth Straight Win

The University of Cincinnati volleyball team picked up its fifth straight win, defeating Morehead State in four sets on Thursday night inside Fifth Third Arena.

CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati volleyball team picked up its fifth straight win, defeating Morehead State in four sets on Thursday night inside Fifth Third Arena.
 
The Bearcats (8-2) have posted their most non-conference wins since the 2019 season. They will wrap up their out-of-conference slate with another match against Morehead State on Saturday in Morehead, Ky. 

Junior Carly Glendinning led the Bearcats with a career-high 24 kills at a .310 hitting percentage (24-6-58). She has set a new career high in kills in three of the last four matches. She added a career-high four aces to go with three blocks.
 
Senior Katelyn Lefler and sophomore Sydney Nolan recorded double-doubles for the second straight match. Lefler registered her third of the season with 48 assists and 16 digs. Nolan tallied 15 kills and 13 digs for her fourth double-double.
 
Glendinning (24), Nolan (15) and Fallon Stewart (13) combined for 52 of UC's 64 kills. The Bearcats also had a season-high 10 service aces.
 
Defensively, UC owned a plus-13 advantage in digs (83-70). Reigning Big 12 Rookie of the Week Faith Frame notched her second career 20-dig performance. Julie Wittekind and Lilly Gillespie combined for 14 digs as defensive specialists.

In addition, Cincinnati welcomed back two-time Olympic medalist Jordan Thompson. She will be inducted into the 2024 James P. Kelly UC Athletics Hall of Fame Class on Friday. Tickets for the ceremony can be found here.
 
Morehead State used a 5-0 run to lead by five in the first set (18-13). The Bearcats made a late run to even the set at 24 apiece. UC fought off seven set points, but the rally came up short, 33-31. It took a combined 64 points to determine the first set. 
 
Cincinnati got out to an early lead in the second set (5-1), but Morehead State responded with a 4-0 run to take a 13-9 advantage. The Bearcats ended the stanza on a 6-1 run. A block from Ligia Williams and Glendinning gave UC the set win, 25-21.  
 
The two teams traded scoring runs to find the third set tied at 17 apiece. With Abby Walker behind the service line, the Bearcats rattled off five straight points to claim the set, 25-19. She posted a pair of aces during the stretch.
 
The Bearcats carried the momentum into the fourth and final frame, 25-17. They had five runs of three-or-more points in the set.
