MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The University of Cincinnati volleyball team extended its winning streak to seven matches with a sweep of West Virginia on Wednesday night in Morgantown, W.Va.
The Bearcats improve to 10-2 and remain unbeaten on the road (5-0). Cincinnati used a total team effort to take down the Mountaineers in straight sets. Setter Katelyn Lefler dished out 30 assists en route to a .337 team hitting percentage.
Junior Carly Glendinning continued her recent tear with a team-high 15 kills (.412). She has posted double-digit kills in seven consecutive matches. Sophomore Sydney Nolan added 10 kills (.385) while freshman Fallon Stewart did not commit an attacking error with seven kills on 17 attempts (.412).
Defensively, Faith Frame and Julie Wittekind anchored the backline with a combined 24 digs. The Bearcats were plus-six in blocks (7-1) behind four from Ligia Williams.
With Molly Harrison behind the service line, the Bearcats rattled off six straight points in the first set. Cincinnati ended the frame on a 5-1 spurt to win it, 25-15.
Harrison once again came in clutch for the Bearcats in the second set. With UC trailing 14-11, she powered the team on a 4-0 run. She recorded a pair of service aces during the stretch (15-14). Three straight kills from Glendinning later put UC up, 18-16. WVU fought back to even the set at 23 all, but Stewart and Walker recorded back-to-back kills to secure the win, 25-23.
Cincinnati finished the third set on a 7-1 scoring run to win it, 25-16.
