CINCINNATI -- Former Cincinnati head coach Tay Baker, as well as his 1965-66 team that reached the Elite Eight, have been announced as inductees to the Ohio Basketball Hall of Fame's 2024 class.
The ceremony will take place Saturday, April 20 in Columbus at the Hilton Polaris (8700 Lyra Drive). More information on tickets and other questions are available here.
This Bearcats team won the Missouri Valley Conference championship and finished the season ranked in the top-10 nationally. They played 10 of the top 25 teams in the US, winning nine of those ten games, and made it to the NCAA Midwest Regional, falling to eventual national champion Texas Western in overtime of the Sweet 16.
Baker, who turned 97 in September, coached at both UC and Xavier. The Bearcats' 1965-66 MVC title was his first year at the helm, having previously served six years under the legendary Ed Jucker in Clifton. In seven years at UC, his teams went 125-60. At Xavier, Baker helped the team achieve their first winning season in 12 years during his third year as head coach.
