WACO, Texas – The University of Cincinnati volleyball team fell to No. 22-ranked Baylor on Thursday night in Waco, Texas.
The Bearcats (11-6, 2-4 Big 12) were swept by the Bears (11-6, 3-3 Big 12). Cincinnati struggled offensively, hitting .175 in the match. Baylor finished with a .330 clip and 10 service aces.
Freshman Fallon Stewart paced the Bearcats with 10 kills at a .444 hitting percentage. Fellow freshman Faith Frame posted her ninth straight double-digit dig match with a team-high 12 in the category.
Baylor rattled off four straight points to lead 14-9 in the first set. Another 4-0 run pushed the Bears' lead to eight (18-10). The deficit proved too large to overcome as the Bearcats dropped the opening frame, 25-18.
UC jumped out to a 4-1 advantage in the second set behind a trio of kills and a block. Baylor responded with five straight points. The two teams then traded points until a 4-1 run gave BU a four-point edge (19-15). The Bears went on to win the set, 25-16. Stewart was a bright spot, putting down six kills on 10 attempts (.400).
Cincinnati benefited from four Baylor errors to lead 8-7 in the third set. The Bearcats rattled off three consecutive points (14-11) before the Bears responded with a 5-0 run. Cincinnati got a trio of kills from Lazda, Glendinning and Nolan to reclaim the advantage (19-18). Baylor ultimately ended the match on a 6-1 spurt to win the frame, 25-20.
