CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati swimming and diving program earned three Big 12 weekly awards for the second week in a row, the league announced on Wednesday.
Hunter Gubeno (Men's Swimmer) and Joleigh Crye (Women's Swimmer) grabbed back-to-back accolades after each tallying three individual event wins.
Owen Chiles (Men's Newcomer) received his first weekly award for the Bearcats.
Graduate student Hunter Gubeno was named Big 12's Men's Swimmer of the Week following another strong performance against Northwestern this past weekend. He finished first in the 100-yard backstroke (46.87), 200-yard backstroke (1:41.11) and the 200-yard individual medley (1:46.82). With these times, he ranks among the top 15 in the nation in the 100-yard backstroke and 12th in the 200-yard IM.
Gubeno was also a member of the second place finishing 400-yard medley relay that swam the ninth-fastest time in program history.
Junior Joleigh Crye notched her third career Big 12 accolade after securing going two-for-two in her individual events against Northwester. She found the wall first in the 100-yard breaststroke (59.38) and in the 100-yard butterfly (53.53) as well as leading the women's 200-yard freestyle to finish first.
Crye ranks second in the country in the 100-yard breaststroke and 26th in the 100-yard butterfly.
Freshman Owen Chiles continues to make a name for himself in his rookie season as he earned his first Big 12 Weekly Award. He finished second in the 100-yard freestyle (44.94) and third in the 100-yard backstroke (48.08).
Chiles' 100-yard backstroke time was the sixth-fastest in program history as well.
