CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati volleyball team opened its Big 12 home slate with a commanding win over UCF on Saturday inside Fifth Third Arena.
The Bearcats (11-3, 2-1) bounced back to sweep UCF in their Big 12 home opener. Cincinnati picked up its first win over UCF since 2019, snapping a nine-match losing skid to the Knights.
Junior Carly Glendinning posted a match-high 13 kills to go along with two aces and five digs. She has registered double-digit kills in nine straight matches for the Bearcats.
The defensive duo of Faith Frame and Julie Wittekind shined in the straight-set victory. They combined for 30 of UC's 59 digs and helped the Bearcats be plus-12 in the category (59-47). Frame posted a match-high 17 digs while Wittekind finished with a career-high 13.
Setter Katelyn Lefler recorded her sixth double-double of the season with 29 assists and 10 digs. She has notched a double-double in five of her last six matches. Middle blockers Abby Walker and Zeta Washington added a combined 14 kills, each hitting above .400.
UC started the match on a 4-0 run. The Bearcats later took a 14-10 advantage after a Glendinning kill. UCF fought back to even the score at 16-all. Glendinning notched a kill and an ace to put UC up 22-21. Cincinnati received kills from Nolan, Washington and Walker to finish off the set win, 25-23. Glendinning had six kills with no attacking errors for a .462 clip in the stanza.
The Bearcats carried the momentum into the second set, going on a 7-0 run to start the frame (12-2). Lefler was behind the service line during the run. UCF made a late push behind seven straight points, but UC held on to win the set, 25-21.
Cincinnati used a pair of 5-0 scoring runs to win the third set, 25-20. Walker scored the winning-point in each of Cincinnati's set wins.
