CINCINNATI — Former Cincinnati men's golf standouts Austin Squires and Joey McCarthy have both made it to the second stage of Korn Ferry Qualifying School after their recent performances.
Squires tied for 16th with a 16-under 272 at the First Stage in Semmes, Ala last week. McCarthy's wrapped Friday with a 6-under 282, tying for 18th, in Ocala, Fla.
"I'm really excited for Austin and Joey as they advanced to second stage of Korn Ferry Qualifying School," head coach Doug Martin said. "We are continuing to build a program to where more and more players are going to have success at the next level."
The five second-stage sites run from Nov. 19 to Dec. 6, with Squires and McCarthy finding out their next destinations in the coming days.
Squires turned pro in 2019 and remains active with PGA Tour Americas. He joined the PGA TOUR Latinoamérica and the PGA TOUR Canada in 2020 and the Korn Ferry Tour in 2022. He played in eight PGA TOUR Canada events in 2022, making three cuts. He lettered from 2015-19 and was the AAC's Golfer of the Year in 2017.
McCarthy finished in 2022 with the best season of his career, including All-AAC honors. That February, he earned Mackenzie Tour-PGA Tour Canada qualifications at an event in Florida.
