CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati volleyball program fell to Arizona in four sets on Thursday night inside Fifth Third Arena.
The Bearcats move to 13-11 overall and 4-9 in the Big 12. Cincinnati will next host ninth-ranked Arizona State at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
Freshman Faith Frame notched a career-high 29 digs on defense. It marked her fourth career 20-piece and 17th time in double-digits this season.
Sophomore Sydney Nolan made the move back to the outside and finished with a team-high 14 kills. She has posted 10-plus kills in three of her last four matches. Senior Abby Walker finished with six kills and is now six away from reaching 1,000 in her career.
Cincinnati trailed 7-2 early in the first set. The Bearcats pulled within one after back-to-back blocks from Zeta Washington and Irbe Lazda (8-7). Arizona later scored four straight to pull away with the set, 25-15.
The Bearcats went on a 5-0 spurt to take a 7-6 advantage in the second set. Another 5-0 stretch pushed UC's lead to five (12-7). Behind the service line, Lilly Gillespie powered the Bearcats on one final 5-0 run to win the set, 25-19.
The two teams traded scoring runs to find the third set tied at 17-all. Arizona scored the next three points to stay in front for the remainder of the frame, 25-22. Arizona used a 5-0 run to jump out to a 12-9 advantage in the fourth set. The Bearcats were unable to pull any closer than two for the remainder of the set, falling 25-20.
