Fourth Quarter Lapse Costs Bearcats in Loss to Seton Hall

A fourth quarter rally by Seton Hall proved to be the deciding factor as the University of Cincinnati women's basketball team fell to the Pirates on Monday night in Fifth Third Arena.

CINCINNATI – A fourth quarter rally by Seton Hall proved to be the deciding factor as the University of Cincinnati women's basketball team fell to the Pirates 69-68 on Monday night inside Fifth Third Arena.

Cincinnati led by as many as 10 before Seton Hall went on a 13-3 run over the final three minutes of the game. The Bearcats' final two looks were unsuccessful as the Pirates held on for the 69-68 win. UC committed 23 turnovers in the loss, including 11 in the decisive fourth quarter.

The Bearcats move to 3-1 and will turn their attention to the Atlantic Slam W, a multi-team event held from Nov. 22-24 in Prince Edward Island, Canada. 

Four Bearcats finished in double figures behind a team-high 16 points from fifth year forward Jillian Hayes. She added a team-high 10 rebounds for her third double-double of the season, 26th of her career. Reagan Jackson (11), Chloe Mann (11) and Tineya Hylton (10) also were in double figures. It marked the first double-digit scoring performance of Mann's career. 

Seton Hall hit a pair of three-pointers to lead 12-6 with under five minutes remaining in the first quarter. Hayes had all six of UC's points to start. The Bearcats pulled within two to end the quarter after a tough bucket by Hayes (19-17).

UC tied up the game after back-to-back buckets from Mann and Delaney Snyder (23-23). The Pirates then rattled off eight straight before a Reagan Jackson 3-pointer ended the spurt (31-26). Cincinnati responded with a 7-0 run to take its first lead of the game. The stretch featured four points from Brianna Byars. The two teams were tied at 35-all heading into the locker room.

Reagan Jackson and Mann knocked down back-to-back three-pointers to give UC a four-point lead with 4:37 in the third quarter (46-42). In total, the Bearcats went on an 11-0 run over four minutes (51-42). Cincinnati outscored Seton Hall 18-9 to own a nine-point advantage with one quarter remaining (53-44).

Seton Hall scored the first six points of the final period to cut UC's deficit to three (53-50). Hylton ended the drought for the Bearcats with under seven minutes remaining. Abby Holtman drained a pair of three-pointers to give UC its largest lead of the game with 4:02 on the clock (65-55).

The Pirates then went on an 11-0 over three minutes to reclaim the lead with 35 seconds remaining (67-65). Hayes completed an and-one play before Seton Hall went back in front with 19 seconds on the clock (69-68). The Bearcats' final two looks were unsuccessful as the Pirates held on for the 69-68 win.
