CINCINNATI – University of Cincinnati women's volleyball player Abby Walker has been selected by the Columbus Fury in the 2024 PVF Collegiate Draft on Monday. Walker was picked in the fourth round as the 32nd overall selection.
"What an amazing accomplishment for Abby," said head coach Molly Alvey. "She is so deserving of this opportunity and I have a hunch she will be playing the game of volleyball for quite a bit longer. Abby is one of the hardest working players I have ever coached. Even better, she is also so appreciative of the opportunity she has been given at UC. Columbus is getting a gem of an athlete and a gem of a person. I am just overjoyed for Abby and her family. She deserves this and so much more."
Over the course of her career, Walker has compiled 1,014 kills, 347 blocks, 272 digs and 100 aces. As a senior, she has led the team in blocks in 19 matches and has five or more blocks in eight contests. She ranks 10th in the Big 12 in blocks per set (1.07) and hitting percentage (.340).
She joins a growing list of former Bearcats making their mark in the professional volleyball world, including Jordan Thompson, who will suit up for LOVB Houston Volleyball this winter, and Elissa Alcantara, who currently plays for Volley Bergamo in the Italian Women's Volleyball League.
"Abby is a steal in the draft," said Fury's Head Coach Angel Perez. "We were looking for a middle that could move side-to-side quickly and Abby fits the mode. We're also excited to have another native of (Cambridge) Ohio on our roster."
Walker will wrap up her Bearcat career this weekend, playing in her final two matches in the Red & Black. The Bearcats will host No. 16 Baylor at 1 p.m. on Wednesday and No. 22 TCU at 2 p.m. on Friday for Senior Day.
