THE RUNDOWN
- Cincinnati opened its second season under head coach Katrina Merriweather with a commanding 66-54 victory over UIC on Tuesday night in Chicago.
- The Bearcats improved their record to 8-3 in their last 11 season openers and were one of just two Big 12 teams to start the season on the road.
- The Bearcats were led by senior transfer point guard Tineya Hylton. She scored a career-high 20 points on 6-of-12 shooting and 8-of-9 from the free throw line. Both marks were career-bests for the Texas A&M transfer.
- Fifth year forward Jillian Hayes continued her dominance, notching her 24th career double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. She currently ranks 29th among active Division I players in career double-doubles.
- In addition to Hylton, four other Bearcats made their debuts: Chloe Mann, Alliance Ndiba, Ramiyah Byrd and Daylee Dunn. Every available player saw action in the season opener.
- Ndiba, starting in her Bearcat debut, grabbed 10 rebounds. The Arizona Western transfer previously tallied double-digit boards in 36 of her 57 JUCO games.
- Mann, the team's lone true freshman, chipped in eight points and three boards vs. UIC. She had an emphatic steal-and-score through contact to end the third quarter.
- Junior A'riel Jackson delivered an efficient offensive performance with 14 points on 6-of-9 shooting, including a signature step-back three-pointer to close the first half. This marked her 13th career game in double figures.
- Cincinnati brings back nine letterwinners, including four starters, from 2023-24. Key returners include three of the top four scorers from last season: Jillian Hayes (12.9 ppg), A'riel Jackson (9.4 ppg) and Reagan Jackson (8.2 ppg).
- The Bearcats welcome four newcomers to the 2024-25 roster: Tineya Hylton (senior, transfer from Texas A&M), Daylee Dunn (fifth-year, transfer from Loyola Marymount), Alliance Ndiba (redshirt junior, transfer from Arizona Western), and freshman Chloe Mann from Fort Worth, Texas.
- Fifth year forward Jillian Hayes, the first Bearcat to earn All-Big 12 honors, is back for the Bearcats. She ranked inside the top 5 in the Big 12 in free throws made (159) and rebounding (8.4) while finishing in the top 20 in points (12.9) and blocks (0.8) last season.
- Hayes has led Cincinnati in scoring, rebounding and steals for three straight seasons — a first in program history. She posted 10 double-doubles last season, becoming the first Bearcat since Doris Scott (1997-99) to record back-to-back double-digit double-double seasons.
- In the program's record books, Hayes sits third in blocks (127), fourth in free throws made (406), fifth in rebounds (855), eighth in steals (183) and 14th in scoring (1,310).
