CINCINNATI – University of Cincinnati Director of Athletics John Cunningham announced on Friday that women's volleyball head coach Molly Alvey will not be retained for the 2025 season.

A national search for the next Cincinnati volleyball coach is underway.

"I'm grateful to Molly for all she has done for the University of Cincinnati and our student-athletes," Cunningham said. "She poured her heart and soul into this program for 13 years, leading our volleyball team to three NCAA Tournaments and a Sweet 16 finish in 2019. She was a stabilizing force in this athletics department for many years and helped lead us into the Big 12. I can't thank Molly enough for her commitment to excellence and dedication to our student-athletes. I wish her well."

Alvey had a career record of 201-186 in 13 seasons at Cincinnati. She guided the Bearcats to three NCAA Tournaments, in 2016, 2018 and 2019. UC advanced to the Sweet 16 in 2019, winning the American Athletic Conference regular season title that same year.

Among her many pupils were All-Americans Jordan Thompson and Jordanne Scott. Thompson was a three-time All-American selection and three-time AAC Player of the Year. Thompson has competed for Team USA in the 2024 and 2021 Olympics, winning a gold medal in 2021.

The Bearcats finished with a 14-15 overall record in 2024, including a 5-13 mark in Big 12 play for a second straight year.
