The University of Cincinnati women's basketball team rolled past Central Connecticut State, 78-49, on Education Day Tuesday morning inside Fifth Third Arena.

CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati women's basketball team rolled past Central Connecticut State, 78-49, on Education Day Tuesday morning inside Fifth Third Arena.
 
The Bearcats (5-2) scored first and never trailed in a dominant performance over the Blue Devils.
 
Fifth year forward Jillian Hayes recorded her fifth double-double of the season and the 28th of her career with a game-high 26 points and 10 rebounds. She shot 7-of-13 from the field and 12-of-14 from the free throw line. She has now scored 20-plus points four times this season and 14 times in her career.
 
Tineya Hylton (14 points) and Reagan Jackson (12 points) joined Hayes in double figures, marking the third time this season where three Bearcats reached double digits.
 
Cincinnati forced 24 turnovers which resulted in 30 points. The Bearcats also capitalized at the free throw line, converting a season-best 31-of-38 attempts (.816). The 31 made free throws are a conference-high for a single game this season and tied for eighth nationally.
 
CCSU finished 37.8% from the floor and 37.5% from three-point range.
 
Cincinnati jumped out to a 10-2 lead before CCSU pulled within three after a 5-0 spurt (12-9). A'riel Jackson's four points pushed the advantage to seven (18-11), and Cincinnati led 19-13 after the opening quarter.
 
Abby Holtman sparked the second quarter with five points in two minutes to extend the lead to nine (26-17). Hayes then went on a personal 8-0 run, stretching the advantage to 14 (34-20). She scored 10 points in the quarter, helping the Bearcats take a 38-23 halftime lead. Cincinnati went 12-of-14 from the line in the first half while holding CCSU without a single free throw attempt.
 
Hylton set the tone in the second half, scoring the Bearcats' first six points. She and Hayes powered UC on a 12-0 run, building a 27-point lead (52-25). CCSU never got closer than 17 points as Cincinnati cruised to its fifth win of the season, 78-49.
