CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati women's basketball team dominated Western Illinois, 95-52, on Friday night inside Fifth Third Arena.
The Bearcats (6-2) scored a season-high 95 points and drained eight three-pointers en route to a decisive victory over Western Illinois.
Sophomore Reagan Jackson erupted for a career-high 29 points behind a career-high five three-pointers. She shot 10-of-13 from the field overall and 5-of-8 from deep. She added four rebounds and three assists.
Senior Tineya Hylton also shined with a career-high-tying 20 points, including a 14-of-17 effort from the free throw line. She also registered season highs in rebounds (6), assists (7) and steals (5), with the latter two being career bests.
Nine Bearcats contributed to the offensive explosion, with fifth year forward Jillian Hayes and redshirt junior Alliance Ndiba narrowly missing double-doubles. Hayes pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds alongside nine points, while Ndiba added 10 points and eight boards.
Defensively, Cincinnati forced 24 turnovers which resulted in 35 points. They held Western Illinois to just 34% shooting from the floor and 19% from three-point range.
UC sunk 31 free throws for the second straight game (.838). The Bearcats are 5-1 this season when outscoring opponents from the line.
Reagan Jackson scored eight of Cincinnati's first 10 points, while Hylton chipped in 10 points in the opening frame to give UC a 24-14 lead. Back-to-back jumpers from A'riel Jackson and Reagan Jackson stretched the lead to 28-14 early in the second quarter. A quick 6-0 run, highlighted by consecutive baskets from Delaney Snyder, pushed the margin to 16. The Bearcats entered halftime up 17 (39-22).
The Bearcats went on a 9-0 run in the third quarter and extended their lead to as many as 33 points. Reagan Jackson continued her offensive tear, pouring in 12 points in the period, including three three-pointers. Cincinnati outscored Western Illinois 32-18 in the third.
Cincinnati kept its foot on the gas in the final frame, connecting on three three-pointers—two from Daylee Dunn and one from Abby Holtman. Western Illinois never got closer than 31 points as Cincinnati cruised to its sixth win of the season.
