CINCINNATI -- As University of Cincinnati students begin their return to campus for their second semester, the athletics department is proud to announce it posted a 3.4784 GPA for the fall term, a department record and fourth-straight above a 3.4.

"Our student-athletes continue to break records in the classroom, and to say I am proud would be an understatement," Director of Athletics John Cunningham said. "Three years ago, we built The Academy as an entirely new department to provide innovative programs designed to enhance student-athlete success at UC and as future professionals. We are seeing the benefits today."

Five sports (baseball, football, men's golf, men's track and field, volleyball) set program records as well, starting with football at 3.28. Men's golf and volleyball (both 3.77) were the top men's and women's marks, respectively.

Other athletics-wide achievements included 361 of UC's 431 athletes earning a 3.0 GPA or higher, a record of 83 percent. Fifty-nine Bearcats earned TopCat honors (4.0 GPA) with 276 reaching the Dean's List for at least a 3.4.

Among the 4.0 students were track and field All-American Juliette Laracuente-Huebner, women's basketball star Jillian Hayes and football walk-on defensive lineman Ben Blevins, who received a scholarship from Walk-On's and Jason Kelce at New Heights Live! this spring.

"Our Bearcats are excelling in the classroom and ready for success after their time at UC," Cunningham said. "These academic records are a testament to the work being done to prepare these young men and women to change the world on and off the field, which is a core part of our mission. Congratulations to our student-athletes, and kudos to our coaches, for prioritizing the classroom, and support staff, led by our Student-Athlete Support Services and The Academy teams."

In addition, eight football players, six soccer and four from volleyball earned Academic All-District recognition by College Sports Communicators.
