CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati women's basketball team continues its road swing with a midweek matchup against Texas Tech on Wednesday night. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET in Lubbock, Texas.

THE RUNDOWN
  • Cincinnati fell to then-No. 18 West Virginia, 69-50, in its last outing, committing a season-high 24 turnovers that led to 23 Mountaineer points. The Bearcats are 1-7 when scoring fewer than 59 points this season but 9-1 when holding opponents under that mark.
  • Fifth year forward Jillian Hayes delivered a dominant week, averaging 17.5 points and 12.5 rebounds across two games while shooting 50% from the field.
  • Hayes opened the stretch with 15 points and 15 rebounds against then-No. 14 Kansas State, followed by a 20-point, 10-rebound performance at West Virginia. She was the only Big 12 player to post two double-doubles last week. She has now recorded double-digit double-doubles in three consecutive seasons, with 34 in her career.
  • Her six 20-point, 10-rebound games this season are the most by a Bearcat since Debbie Merrill had six in 2002-03. She's one of just four Big 12 players to reach that mark this season.
  • Hayes is one block away from tying the program record and two blocks away from becoming Cincinnati's all-time leader in blocked shots (143), surpassing Bev Obringer's mark of 142 set from 1984-89.
  • Hayes has embraced a new role in the absence of Alliance Ndiba, who has missed the last six games due to injury. After the K-State game, Coach Merriweather praised her selflessness: "The biggest part for me is that we've asked her to do something different ever since Alliance has been out, and she has willingly taken on defending a five-player where she is outmatched, undersized, and all those other things. But she still has enough heart to compete in that space, and I think that's the epitome of who she is."
  • Cincinnati leads the Big 12 and ranks second nationally with 17.5 made free throws per game. The Bearcats have outscored their opponents at the line in 19 games this season (14-5), averaging 21.4 makes in wins compared to just 12.1 in losses.
  • The Bearcats have recorded 14 or more offensive rebounds in three straight games. They rank second in the Big 12 with 13.7 offensive boards per game and lead the conference in league play with 13.4.
  • Defensively, the Bearcats rank second in the Big 12 in turnover margin (+4.8, 39th nationally) and fourth in turnovers forced (17.6 per game).
  • Hayes is nearly averaging a double-double with 16.4 points and 9.7 rebounds per game while shooting 42.7% from the field. Her 11 double-doubles rank second in the Big 12 and 28th nationally, while she also sits second in the league in rebounding and 10th in scoring.
  • Tineya Hylton is averaging 13.0 points per game while shooting 38.8% from the field. The Bearcats are 10-3 when she scores in double figures and 7-2 when at least three players reach double digits.
  • Among active career Division I leaders, Hayes ranks first in FT attempts (779), second in FTs made (544), 11th in rebounds (1,076) and 25th in double-doubles (34).
  • The Bearcats secured their best non-conference winning percentage (.800, 8-2) since the 2005-06 season (.909, 10-1).
  • Cincinnati is ranked 84th nationally in the Feb. 17 NET, while Texas Tech comes in at 83rd.

A WIN WOULD...
  • Keep Cincinnati perfect against Texas Tech, improving to 3-0 all-time
  • Secure the Bearcats' most conference road wins (4) since the 2020-21 season (6-3)
