CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati lacrosse team was unable to hold off a second-quarter surge from Vanderbilt, falling 13-8 in its 2025 season opener on Saturday.

The Bearcats came out aggressive, taking a 3-2 lead after the first quarter, with junior Camryn Callaghan leading the way. Junior Lexie Wolfe and sophomore Ally Keith each contributed their first goals of the season.

After a Vanderbilt 6-0 run, Cincinnati struggled to regain control, as the Commodores' defense tightened in the fourth quarter, shutting Cincinnati out while adding four more goals to widen the margin. Freshman Alyse Keels broke the scoring drought for the Bearcats with her first collegiate goal.

Callaghan paced UC with three goals, while graduate student Lauren Ottensmeyer added two. Freshman Paige Selhorn led the team with three assists.

Sophomore Hailey Darko recorded a solid performance in the cage, recording seven saves. Despite winning the draw control battle (11-13), Cincinnati couldn't convert late, as Vanderbilt's late surge sealed the victory.

Cincinnati will head to Louisville, Ky. to face the Cardinals on Tuesday, Feb.11. Opening draw is set for 3 p.m.
