LUBBOCK, Texas – The University of Cincinnati men's and women's track and field programs claimed two conference championships, five program records and five podium finishes at the Big 12 Indoor Conference Championships on Friday and Saturday inside the TTU Sports Performance Center.
Sophomore multi Juliette Laracuente-Huebner secured the pentathlon title, while graduate student jumper Astley Davis secured the triple jump crown.
The Bearcats women's squad came in ninth place (out of 16 teams) with 40 points, while the men's team finished in 10th place, totaling 27 points. Texas Tech won both the men's (130 points) and women's (113.5 points) championships, marking the Raiders' third straight men's title.
Laracuente-Huebner notched the Bearcats' first ever individual Big 12 title by winning the pentathlon with an impressive score of 4182 points. The Marengo, Ohio native set a new personal best with her mark and now owns the second-best mark in school history, narrowly trailing former Bearcat Jasmine Cotton who recorded 4192 points in 2012.
Davis came into the championship as the conference leader in the triple jump, with a mark of 16.22m. He grabbed the conference title with a mark of 15.79m.
UC nearly took home more championships in the shot put.
One the women's side, senior Amanda Ngandu Ntumba came in second place with a heave of 16.75m, while graduate student Fred Moudani-Likibi notched third place in the men's shot put with a throw of 19.10m.
Graduate student Naquille Harris (60m), senior Abby Knouff (pole vault), junior Kya Epps (60m & 200m) and sophomore Davenae Fagan (400m) all recorded historic program marks.
Epps put her hands on two new program records in the 60m and 200m dash. The Akron, Ohio native won her 60m heat with a time of 7.21 seconds. In the 200m, Epps claimed another program record with a blazing time of 22.90 seconds.
The Bronx, N.Y. native, Harris ran a school-record scorching time of 6.64 in the 60m. Knouff continues to improve her hold on the number one pole vault spot in UC history as she broke her previous best, earning a third-place finish, vaulting 4.46m. Fagan secured her heat en route to a 400m school record time of 52.49 seconds.
