Tennis Travels West for Two Matches in Arizona

The University of Cincinnati women's tennis team heads west to play against Arizona on Friday and Arizona State on Sunday.

CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati women's tennis team heads west to play against Arizona on Friday and Arizona State on Sunday.
 
First serve against the Wildcats is set for 3 p.m. ET on Friday and 3 p.m. ET on Sunday versus the Sun Devils.
 
Cincinnati (6-5) comes into the weekend after dropping two matches at home against Kansas State, 4-3 and Oklahoma State, 4-0.
 
The Bearcats were in a back-and-forth battle against Kansas State with the overall score tied 3-3, the match was hinged on court three, where sophomore Gabrielle Guenther faced Chomsomjav Maralgoo in a hard-fought three-set battle.
 
Guenther took the first set, 6-2. The second set went to a tie break, which Maralgoo won 7-6 (7). Maralogoo built off her momentum from set two, taking the final set, 6-2, securing the victory for the Wildcats.
 
The Bearcats are led by graduate student Zeynep Erman, the Istanbul, Turkey native owns a 7-2 record on court one and a 6-3 doubles record.

Arizona comes into the match presenting an 11-5 record and a 3-1 record in conference play. The Wildcats won their last match against Kansas, 4-2.
 
The Wildcats' doubles are led by the ITA's No. 39 ranked duo of Middori Castillo and Martyna Ostrzygalo. They present a mark of 4-4, playing on court No. 1.             
 
In singles, UA is spearheaded by Josie Userau, she is ranked No. 37 by ITA and holds a record of 4-3 playing on courts two and three.
 
Arizona's Tanvi Narendran who plays on courts four and five boasts an impressive team best 13-1 record.
 
// SCOUTING THE SUN DEVILS
Arizona State enters the weekend with a record of 8-4 overall and 3-1 in conference play. Before hosting Cincinnati, the Sun Devils will take on West Virginia (6-9) on Friday.
 
ASU dominated in its last match, sweeping Iowa State, 4-0.
 
The Sun Devils have two players in the ITA top 50 – No. 27 Emilija Tverijonaite and No. 45 Sara Svetc.
 
In singles, Tverijonaite holds down court one for Arizona State, as she boasts a 7-3 record, 2-0 against nationally ranked opponents. Svect holds down court two, presenting a record of 6-3, 1-0 against nationally ranked opponents
 
In doubles, ASU is led by the duo of Patricija Spaka and Lily Taylor. The pair is ranked 30th in the country by ITA with an overall record of 8-1 on the number one court.
