Bearcats Dominate Chippewas, 13-6

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - The University of Cincinnati lacrosse team triumphed over Central Michigan, 13-6, on Sunday at the CMU Soccer/Lacrosse Complex. The Bearcats notched their third straight win, improving to 4-3 overall.

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - The University of Cincinnati lacrosse team triumphed over Central Michigan, 13-6, on Sunday at the CMU Soccer/Lacrosse Complex. The Bearcats notched their third straight win, improving to 4-3 overall.

Cincinnati claimed an early lead in the first half with a dominant 9-0 run. They paired this with strong defense, allowing Central Michigan to score only two goals by halftime. The Bearcats led in shots throughout the game, finishing with an impressive 30-22 advantage over the Chippewas.

Graduate student Lauren Ottensmeyer dominated on offense, scoring a new season-high seven goals and marking her sixth hat trick of the season. Junior Camryn Callaghan tallied a season-high three assists, all recorded in the first half. On the defensive side, sophomore goalkeeper Hailey Darko found her groove, recording a season-high nine saves.

Central Michigan struck first at 8:30 with a goal from Hanna Wenger. Ottensmeyer responded with two back-to-back goals near the end of the first quarter, putting Cincinnati in front. Sophomore Ally Keith closed out the first quarter with a goal at the 1:50 mark for a 3-1 lead.

Cincinnati stayed aggressive, starting the second half with a goal from Callaghan in the first five minutes. Central Michigan replied late with two straight goals. With four seconds left, Callaghan struck back with her third goal of the day to end the third quarter.

The Chippewas fought hard, securing two back-to-back goals in the last minute of regulation but were unable to catch up to the Bearcats.

UC remains on the road as they take on the No. 20 Ohio State Buckeyes on Friday. The opening is set for 3 p.m. in Columbus, Ohio.
