LA JOLLA, Calif. – No. 23 Cincinnati concluded its road trip out west on Sunday, falling to UC San Diego by a score of 5-0.

The Bearcats, who have been on the road since Thursday, Feb. 20 and played eight total games against UNLV and UC San Diego, were shut out for the first time this season.

UC collected five hits against the Tritons. Redshirt senior Kerrington Cross and junior Landyn Vidourek both reached base twice, the only Bearcats to do so.

Freshman Ty Barnett made the first start of his career and was one of five pitcers to see time on the mound. Barnett logged one strikeout in two scoreless frames.

Cincinnati's first home game at UC Baseball Stadium vs. Toledo has been rescheduled and will now be played on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. That will begin a six-game homestand with a four-game series vs. Canisius (March 7-9) and a midweek contest vs. Miami (Ohio) (March 11) to follow.

// HOW IT HAPPENED
Kory Klingenbeck and Kerrington Cross provided nice plays in the field in the first couple inning. Ty Barnett faced the minimum in his two innings of work, retiring all six hitters that stepped in the box against him.

The Tritons scored their first run of the game in the bottom of the fourth on a solo homer, and they added another run in the bottom of the fifth on a fielder's choice. The top of the fifth saw UC's best scoring opportunity to that point, as Charlie Niehaus singled and Landyn Vidourek walked to put runners at first and second with two outs, but the next hitter was retired to end the inning.

The score increased to 4-0 in the seventh on a wild pitch, as one runner scored and another crossed the plate on a Cincinnati fielding miscue. The Bearcats had another chance to cut into the deficit in the top of the eighth, as Vidourek and Jack Natili reached on base hits, but the inning ended with them stranded on first and second.

UC San Diego added another run on a solo homer in the bottom of the eighth to cap the scoring.
