LA JOLLA, Calif. – No. 23 Cincinnati faced UC San Diego once again on Saturday and fell to the Tritons by a score of 8-2.

The Bearcats had a tough time scoring against UCSD starting pitcher Spencer Seid, who struck out 13 across seven innings. UC did scatter nine hits on Saturday, but was unable to put up a crooked number against Seid and the Tritons.

Cincinnati had three players record multi-hit efforts, led by redshirt senior Kerrington Cross and redshirt freshman Charlie Niehaus, who both tallied three hits apiece. Senior Tommy O'Connor went 2-for-4 operating out of the two-hole in the lineup.

Five pitchers saw time on the mound for the Bearcats, with senior Adam Mrakitsch making his third start of the season.

The final game of the series is set for Sunday at 1:00 p.m. ET.

// HOW IT HAPPENED
For the first time all weekend, UC San Diego struck first, taking the lead in the bottom of the second on a two-run double.

Cincinnati strung together a few hits in the top of the third and pushed across its first run of the game to halve the deficit and make it 2-1. Charlie Niehaus lined one to the shortstop that ricocheted into left field and allowed him to reach second base, and he scored a few pitches later on Kory Klingenbeck's line drive to right field. Kerrington Cross singled to center to put runners at the corners with one out, but UC wasn't able to score again that inning.

The Tritons built their lead up to 4-1 with runs in the fourth and fifth, then blew the game open with a four-run bottom of the eighth. The Bearcats scored a run in the top of the eighth on a double play when UC San Diego traded a run for two outs, but that would be their final run of the game.
