CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati baseball team captured its third win this season over a ranked team on Tuesday night, defeating No. 18 Louisville by a score of 12-2 at UC Baseball Stadium.

The three wins against ranked opponents are the most for the Bearcats since the 2019 season.

Tuesday's victory was also the third win at home over a ranked Louisville team since 2017. UC defeated the No. 1-ranked Cardinals in 2017 and walked off the No. 5-ranked Cardinals in 2021.

UC (13-11) did all of its damage in the beginning of the game, scoring two in the first, six in the second, and four in the fourth. Louisville (18-6) held a brief 2-0 lead after scoring two in the top of the first, but the Cincinnati pitching staff dominated after that. The combination of redshirt senior Max Bergmann, freshman Hudson Johnson, and sophomore Carson Marsh helped keep the Cardinals hitless until the top of the seventh inning.

Redshirt senior Kerrington Cross continued his torrid pace at the plate, going 3-for-5 with a home run and three runs scored. It was his fourth consecutive multi-hit game, and he's now 10-for-17 over his last four games. One of the Big 12's leaders in hitting this season, Cross' batting average now stands at .425.

Cross was one of six Bearcats with a multi-hit effort, and junior Landyn Vidourek posted an identical 3-for-5 line at the plate. Vidourek also scored three times, which tied a season high. Sophomore Cal Sefcik drew three walks, a career-high total and tied for the most in a game by a Bearcat hitter this season.

Sophomore Jack Natili, junior Christian Mitchelle, redshirt freshman Charlie Niehaus, and senior Donovan Ford all had two hits apiece.

On the mound, Bergmann earned his first win of the year and was one of seven UC pitchers to see time.

Big 12 Conference play resumes this weekend for Cincinnati, which will host UCF for three-games beginning on Friday evening.

// HOW IT HAPPENED
Louisville's Garret Pike led off the scoring with a two-run single in the top of the first, but UC responded quickly in the bottom half of the inning. Landyn Vidourek's base hit brought in the first Cincinnati run of the night, then Christian Mitchelle scorched a single through the right side that brought home Vidourek and tied the game at 2-2.

The Bearcats blew it open in the bottom of the second, batting around and scoring six runs to go up 8-2. Following back-to-back bunt singles from Charlie Niehaus and Donovan Ford, Kerrington Cross launched a three-run homer to left field to make it 5-2. UC scored another run on a wild pitch and two on a Louisville throwing error to increase its lead to 8-2.

Four more Cincinnati runs scored in the bottom of the fourth. Ford's RBI single brought home Niehaus, and he later scored on a two-run double from Vidourek. Jack Natili then drove home Vidourek on a base hit into right field that put the score at 12-2.

Following Louisville's strong first inning, the Bearcats' pitching staff kept them out of the hit column until the seventh inning. Max Bergmann, Hudson Johnson, and Carson Marsh held the Cardinals hitless until a leadoff single in the top of the seventh. That runner was erased two hitters later on a double play.

Brandon Scheurer, Chase Horst, and Adam Buczkowski finished out the game on the mound for Cincinnati to wrap up the ranked victory.
