Lacrosse Begins Conference Play in Tempe on Saturday

CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati lacrosse team begin its inaugural season in the Big 12 Conference play with a road matchup against the Arizona State Sun Devils. Opening draw is set for 12:30 ET in Tempe, Ariz.

CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati lacrosse team begin its inaugural season of Big 12 Conference play with a road matchup against the Arizona State Sun Devils. Opening draw is set for 12:30 ET in Tempe, Ariz.
 
THE RUNDOWN
  • The Bearcats are 7-5 overall and sitting fourth in the Big 12. The Sun Devils are just above in third with a 7-3 overall record.  This will be the first overall meeting between the two programs.
  • Cincinnati split their spring break road series with a win against Mount St. Mary's but finished the week with a tough 16-11 loss at Georgetown.
  • Sophomore Hailey Darko recorded a career-high 12 saves against the Hoyas. Freshman Paige Selhorn showed her versatility by recording three goals and three assists.
  • Graduate student Lauren Ottensmeyer grabbed her 10th hat trick of the year, 38th of her career.
 
IN THE RANKINGS
  • Freshman Paige Selhorn has made an immediate impact and sprung into the national rankings. With her 37 total assists, she is tied for third in Division I, making her the only freshman within the top ten.
  • She sits second in the Big 12 for assists per game (3.00 avg/g) and has nine games with three or more assists, including a career high 5, three times.
  • Graduate student Lauren Ottensmeyer has also found herself among the nation's best. She sits second in the country for total goals with 47. Camryn Callaghan joins her at 13th with 36.
  • Ottensmeyer ranks 7th in goals per game (3.92 avg/g)
  • Head coach  Gina Thomas  heads into her 13th year at the helm as the Bearcats embark on their inaugural season in the Big 12 Conference. 
  • Cincinnati completed its full transition to the Big 12 with the addition of lacrosse, marking a significant milestone for the athletic department. 
  • The Bearcats return 23 letterwinners, including seven starters. Key returners include three of the top five scorers from last season: Lauren Ottensmeyer (57 goals), Camryn Callaghan (56 goals) and Hailey Joy Simpson (20 goals). 
  • The Bearcats welcome 12 freshmen and two transfers to the 2025 roster. 
  • Freshman  Paige  Selhorn looks to make an immediate impact in the attacker role. The New York native finished her high school career with 155 goals, Conference Player of the Year and Academic All-American honors. 
  • Junior attack  Camryn  Callaghan, named to the First Team All-AAC in 2024, continues to shine with preseason All-Big 12 honors. She became the quickest freshman in program history to achieve 100 career goals. 
  • Graduate student  Lauren  Ottensmeyer and senior Alexis Rich also earned preseason honors, with Ottensmeyer ranking second in the AAC for goals per game (3.35) and leading in shots per game (8.35).
