TEMPE, Ariz. – The University of Cincinnati lacrosse team fell in its Big 12 conference opener, 14-12, to the Arizona State Sun Devils on Saturday afternoon.

TEMPE, Ariz. – The University of Cincinnati lacrosse team fell in its Big 12 conference opener, 14-12, to the Arizona State Sun Devils on Saturday afternoon.

The Bearcats move to 7-6 (0-1) after being unable to overcome a strong offensive stride by the projected conference title winners.

Cincinnati dominated the second quarter, holding Arizona State scoreless and netting four goals to take a 5-3 lead into the break. Both teams recorded five goals each in the third, but ASU was able to maintain momentum, outscoring UC 6-2 in the fourth.

In her first game back due to injury, sophomore Hailey Joy Simpson picked up right where she left off, recording her third hat trick of the season. Freshman Paige Selhorn followed suit with three goals and two assists. Five other Bearcats contributed to scoring, led by junior Sophia Passa notching two.

Cincinnati returns back to Nippert Stadium to welcome UC Davis on Friday, April 4. Opening draw is set for 6 p.m.
