TicketsCOLUMBUS, Ohio – The University of Cincinnati lacrosse team fell short in 10-9 double overtime loss to the No. 21 Ohio State Buckeyes on Friday evening.
Down by as many as four, the Bearcats were able to come back and tie up the game late in the fourth quarter. Neither team scored in the first overtime, sending the game to another additional period. The Buckeyes were able to score the lone goal in overtime play, securing the victory.
The Buckeyes opened the first quarter with four unanswered goals before sophomore Ally Keith nailed one to the back of the net and put the Bearcats on the board.
In second quarter, junior Lexie Wolfe capitalized on the free position goal to put Cincinnati within two. After Ohio State fired back, junior Camryn Callaghan grabbed her first of the day at the six-minute mark.
Wolfe found some momentum and scored three straight for the Bearcats, setting a new career high of four goals.
Graduate student Lauren Ottensmeyer tied the game at eight a piece with 1:35 left in the third quarter. Ottensmeyer blasted one past the goalie to put Cincinnati in front for the first time all game with just 36 seconds left in the third.
