CINCINNATI -- The University of Cincinnati lacrosse team defeated Eastern Michigan, 13-9, on Sunday afternoon under a cool, sunny sky inside Nippert Stadium.

The Bearcats out shot the Eagles 40-15, consistently putting pressure on the opposing defense. UC won the draw control battle, 16-10 and forced 26 EMU turnovers.

Graduate student Lauren Ottensmeyer opened the scoring for the Bearcats within the first three minutes of play. Fellow graduate student Julie Rose notched her first goal of the contest with an assist from freshman Paige Selhorn. Continuing the momentum was sophomore Ally Keith, who made her mark on the scoreboard with a first quarter goal, extending Cincinnati's early lead.

Cincinnati capped off a 3-0 offensive run with a goal from junior Lexie Wolfe before the Eagles were able to get on the board. Before the end of the first quarter, junior Camryn Callaghan capitalized on a free-position attempt adding to UC's lead.

The Bearcats kept their foot on the gas in the second quarter, scoring three goals in just the first three minutes. Callaghan, Ottensmeyer and Rose each found the back of the net in quick succession, further cementing Cincinnati's dominance.

Although EMU attempted a late-game comeback with a strong fourth quarter, Cincinnati's early lead and consistent play proved too much to overcome. Goalie Hailey Darko anchored the defense with four saves, helping secure the victory.

Cincinnati remains at home to take on Wofford on Friday at 3 p.m. for Student Appreciation Night.
