TicketsCINCINNATI –– The University of Cincinnati women's tennis team notched a dominant win against NKU, sweeping the Norse 7-0 at the Western Athletic Club on Wednesday.
The Bearcats won the the doubles point.
In doubles, NKU retired court three, leaving UC to only have to secure one of the two remaining matches.
Sophomore Gabrielle Guenther and junior Rozalia Gruszczynska did just that, as they held down court one with a 6-1 win.
UC overpowered the Norse in singles play, capturing all six points.
Sophomore Sakurako Watanabe became the first Bearcat to reach double-digit wins this season after she recorded a win on court No. 4 over Mariajose Hernandez. The Edgewood, Ky., native cruised through the first set, 6-2. In the second set, Hernandez retired due to injury, giving Watanabe the victory, her record now stands at 10-3.
Freshman Milica Popovski was impressive from the first serve, as she achieved a double bagel, sweeping her way, 6-0, 6-0 to a win.
Cincinnati clinched the match thanks to Guenther's win on court No. 2. This marked the Mishawaka, Ind., native's second win in a row and moved her season record to 8-9, including 2-0 when playing in the number two position.
The contest was wrapped up after Rozalia Gruszczynska claimed court No. 1, 6-4, 6-3.
