Lacrosse Travels to Take on San Diego State on Saturday

CINCINNATI— The University of Cincinnati lacrosse team begins a two-game road trip as they travel to San Diego, Calif. to take on the San Diego State Aztecs on Saturday. Opening draw is set for 4 p.m. ET.

  • The Bearcats look to bounce back after dropping 0-2 in Big 12 Conference play.
  • Cincinnati will face San Deigo State for the first time since 2019. The series is tied at one a piece after the Bearcats claimed the victory six years ago.
  • Cincinnati suffered a heartbreaking 11-10 overtime loss to UC Davis on Friday evening inside Nippert Stadium.
  • Sophomore Paige Counts grabbed her first career hat trick as she led the squad in scoring alongside Lauren Ottensmeyer, who had two.
  • The Bearcats boast at least five different scorers in 12 of their 14 games this season. Leading the way is Lauren Ottensmeyer with 50 and Camryn Callaghan with 38.
  • Offensively, the team has scored a total of 176 goals, averaging 12.57 goals per game. They have taken 433 shots with a 40.6% shooting accuracy, and 305 of those shots have been on target, resulting in a 70.4% shots-on-goal percentage.
  • On the defense side, they have forced 149 turnovers, compared to 111 caused by their opponents.
  • Hailey Simpson has dominated the draw circle, notching a team high 39 draw controls. Lexie Wolfe is right behind with 35. 
  • Hailey Darko has stepped in and found her groove in the cage this season. She has tallied five or more saves in 10 games this season, including 10 vs. ASU and a career-high 12 vs. Georgetown.
  • Cincinnati is 7-3 when Ottensmeyer scores three or more goals.
  • Freshman Paige Selhorn has made an immediate impact and sprung into the national rankings.
  • With her 40 total assists, she is sixth in Division I, making her the only freshman within the top ten.
  • She sits third in the Big 12 for assists per game (2.80 avg/g) and has nine games with three or more assists, including a career high 5, three times. She is fourth in points per game with 4.20 avg/g.
  • Graduate student Lauren Ottensmeyer has found herself among the nation's best. She sits seventh in the country for total goals with 50. Ottensmeyer leads the conference in shots per game with 123.
  • Cincinnati leads the Big 12 in caused turnovers per game with 10.20 avg/g.
