CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati baseball team found itself trailing Arizona State once again on Saturday, but couldn't mount a comeback in a 7-4 loss vs. the Sun Devils.

The Bearcats (20-14, 7-7 Big 12) overcame a four-run deficit on Friday night, but weren't able to replicate the same magic in game two. They got within a run in the fifth, but sere blanked by the Sun Devils (23-12, 9-5 Big 12) the rest of the way.

First pitch for the decisive game three on Sunday is set for 1:00 p.m.

Cincinnati managed just four hits against the Arizona State pitching duo of Jack Martinez and Cole Carlon, and all of its offensive production came in innings four and five. UC scored two runs apiece in each inning and came within a run after the fifth, but the Sun Devils scored twice in the top of the sixth to push their lead to 7-4 and kept the Bearcats' bats quiet the rest of the game.

Redshirt senior Kerrington Cross, sophomore Jack Natili, and sophomore Cal Sefcik drove in runs for Cincinnati on Saturday. Sefcik and senior Tommy O'Connor each had a double, the lone extra-base hits on the day for UC.

Redshirt senior Kellen O'Connor made the start and was one of four pitchers to see time on the mound. Junior Christian Mitchelle, senior Michael Conte, and redshirt junior Joel Pineiro all pitched for the Bearcats.

// HOW IT HAPPENED
For the second straight game, Arizona State put up a crooked number in the top of the first to take an early lead, this time it was three runs. ASU tacked on another run on a sac fly in the top of the fourth to extend its lead to 4-0.

Cincinnati found the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth, scoring on a bases-loaded hit by pitch and a sac fly to trim the deficit to two and make it a 4-2 game. The Sun Devils got a run back in the top of the fifth, but UC again plated two in the bottom half of the inning to pull within a run, 5-4. Kerrington Cross drove in a run on a sac fly and Charlie Niehaus later scored on a throwing error.

Arizona State scored for the third straight inning in the top of the sixth, pushing two runs across to go up 7-4 on a pair of RBI singles.

That would hold as the final score as ASU's Cole Carlon earned a four-inning save, allowing zero runs over the final four innings of the game.
