CINCINNATI –– The University of Cincinnati women's tennis team dropped its match to West Virginia, 4-2 at the Trabert-Talbert Tennis Center on Saturday.
West Virginia jumped out to an early lead after taking the doubles point. The Mountaineers were victorious on courts two and three.
The Bearcats doubles pair of junior Rozalia Gruszczynska and sophomore Gabrielle Guenther notched court one with a score of 6-2, marking their fifth conference win.
The singles were tightly contested, but the Mountaineers were able to secure courts four, five, and six to clinch the match.
Graduate student Zeynep Erman impressed in the number one position, as she notched a 6-3, 6-3 victory. The Istanbul, Turkey native improved her record to 11-5. Gruszczynska had a dominant showing on court number two, as she took the match 6-2, 6-2.
Court three featured a back-and-forth battle between freshman Milica Popovski and Lyla Byers. Popovski claimed the first set 6-2, but Byers fought back to take the second 6-3. The third set reached a dramatic 6-6 (6) tiebreaker before play was halted when West Virginia clinched the overall match.

Following the match, the Bearcats celebrated two graduating student-athletes – Erman and Callie Flanagan.
Flanagan concludes her impressive four-year career as a Bearcat. The Overland, Kansas native amassed 23 singles victories and 30 doubles wins while representing the red and black.
Erman transferred into the program last season after spending four years at Syracuse University and has quickly made a mark during her time at UC. The Istanbul, Turkey native has spearheaded the Bearcats all season long, anchoring court one. Erman owns a 11-5 record in singles and a 12-6 record in doubles.
