CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati baseball team dropped a midweek matchup to rival Xavier on Tuesday night, falling by a score of 7-6.
The Bearcats (21-15) led, 5-4, heading into the top of the ninth before the Musketeers (20-18) scored three runs to grab the lead. A two-run home run by Xavier's Aedan Anderson gave them the lead, and another run scored on a sac fly. Junior Landyn Vidourek led off the bottom of the ninth with a home run to trim the deficit to one, but Cincinnati wasn't able to put together a game-winning rally.
Sophomore Cal Sefcik drove in two if UC's runs on Tuesday on a two-run single in the third inning that tied the game. Senior Donovan Ford and redshirt senior Kerrington Cross logged RBIs for Cincinnati as well.
Ford made one of the best defensive plays of the season in the top of the fifth, making an over the shoulder catch reminiscent of Willie Mays for the first out of the inning.
Six different pitchers saw time on the mound for the Bearcats. Senior Rodney Shultz made the start and freshman Ty Barnett put up a scoreless outing, shutting out the Musketeers in his 1.1 innings of work.
Following Tuesday's game, Cincinnati will head to first-place No. 24 West Virginia for a big three-game series this weekend.

The Bearcats then added to their lead in the bottom of the sixth to go up 5-2, scoring on another sac fly and a wild pitch.
Xavier scored twice in the seventh to make it a one-run game, and retook the lead in the top of the ninth. The first batter of the inning reached on a single and then Aeden Anderson lifted a 3-2 pitch over the fence in left field to flip the script and five the Musketeers a 6-5 lead. A sac fly later in the inning made it 7-5.
Landyn Vidourek led off the bottom of the ninth with a towering home run to right field to give the Bearcats life, and they had the tying run on second base with two outs but could not bring him home.
