CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati redshirt freshman Charlie Niehaus has been picked to the Brooks Wallace Award Watch List by the College Baseball Foundation.
The Brooks Wallace Award honors the nation's top shortstop and will be presented later this year. It is named for former Texas Tech shortstop Brooks Wallace, who played for the Red Raiders from 1977 to 1980. Wallace died of leukemia at the age of 27.
Niehaus has started 33 games at shortstop this season and ranks among the team leaders in batting average, runs scored, and stolen bases. His three triples are tied for third in the Big 12. Earlier this season he had a stretch of 107 total chances at shortstop with just one error.
Niehaus joins teammate Christian Mitchelle as an award watch list selection this week. Mitchelle was named to the John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award watch list on Tuesday.
