MORGANTOWN, W. Va. – The University of Cincinnati baseball team wrapped up its weekend series at No. 24 West Virginia on Saturday with a 10-5 loss to the Mountaineers.

UC (21-18, 8-10 Big 12) struck first in the series finale, but WVU (34-4, 13-3 Big 12) did damage at the plate in the middle innings and quieted the Bearcats' bats. Cincinnati scored four runs in the top of the eighth, but by then the deficit was too great to overcome.

Junior Landyn Vidourek drove in a run and stole a career-high four bases on Saturday, making him the first Bearcat with four steals in one game since Jace Mercer on Feb. 28, 2020 vs. Oakland. He is also the first Big 12 player this season with four stolen bases in a game.

Redshirt senior Dawson Hokuf drove in a couple runs, both of which game on a base hit in that eighth inning. Freshman Derrick Pitts had an RBI as well, coming into the game as a pinch hitter. Sophomore Cal Sefcik drove in the other run for Cincinnati.

Six different pitchers saw action, with sophomore Carson Marsh making his second start of the season.

Cincinnati has five games next week. Non-conference midweek matchups at Xavier on Tuesday and at home vs. Milwaukee on Wednesday precede a weekend series at home vs. Oklahoma State.

// HOW IT HAPPENED
Cincinnati grabbed the initial lead for the first time this weekend, going up 1-0 on a Landyn Vidourek RBI single in the top of the third.

That would be the Bearcats' lone hit of the game until the seventh inning, and during that stretch the Mountaineers built a large lead. WVU scored four in the fourth, four in the fifth, and one each in the sixth and seventh and go up 10-1 at the end of the seventh.

Cincinnati scored four in the top of the eighth, with Derrick Pitts and Cal Sefcik each driving in a run and Dawson Hokuf plating two on a single up the middle. Those would be the final runs of the game, however, and the score when the game ended was 10-5.
