Track and Field Wraps Up Day One Action in Gainesville and Ends Competition in Winston-Salem

The University of Cincinnati men's and women's track and field teams competed at two different meets. The Bearcats split their efforts between the Tom Jones Invitational in Gainesville, Fla., and the Wake Forest Invitational in Winston–Salem, N.C.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. / WINSTON–SALEM, N.C. — The University of Cincinnati men's and women's track and field teams competed at two different meets. The Bearcats split their efforts between the Tom Jones Invitational in Gainesville, Fla., and the Wake Forest Invitational in Winston–Salem, N.C.
 
The Bearcats notched five new all-time top 10 marks between both competitions.

Cincinnati put together great performances in the hammer throw. Graduate students Orry Willems and Amanda Ngandu Ntumba both brought home second place in their groups. Willems had a toss of 64.58m, while Ngandu Ntumba launched a throw of 55.99m to improve her hold on the No. 3 spot in the UC all-time top 10.
 
Freshman Macaela Walker showed out in the 400m hurdles as she took second place with a blazing time of 59.05 seconds, earning herself the second fastest time in UC history.
 
Senior Ryan Rieckmann placed fourth in the Javelin, and freshman Jason Deem notched fourth in the pole vault. Rieckmann recorded a throw that was 68.91m. Deem moved to 10th all-time in Bearcat history with a mark of 5.15m.
 
Tomorrow, the Tom Jones Invitational begins with field events at 9 a.m. ET and the running events kick off at 9:30 a.m. ET.

Junior Claire Curtsinger moved up to the No. 3 spot in the UC record book after registering a personal best time of 16:24.67 in the 5000m.
 
In the 1500m, graduate student Jed Helker ran a time of 3:42.95, placing third, while Seth Elking clocked a time of 3:44.40, the fourth fastest time in Cincinnati history.
 
Freshman Calvin Kilgallon secured 10th place after punching 1:50.55 in the 800m. In the 3000m steeplechase, sophomore Thomas Ashby logged a 9:10.85 time, coming in 11th place.
