CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati baseball team dropped its Tuesday contest at Xavier by a score of 15-6.
Xavier used two big innings to build an insurmountable lead on Tuesday. An eight-run second inning was followed by a six-run fifth inning, and while Cincinnati was able to score in five straight innings at one point it wasn't enough to overcome the sizable deficit.
A pair of freshmen turned in notable performances for the Bearcats. Quinton Coats started at first base and went 3-for-5 at the plate, a career-best hit total for the freshman. Fellow rookie Derrick Pitts hit his first career home run, a two-run shot, and stole a base as well.
Redshirt senior Kerrington Cross and sophomore Jack Natili homered as well.
Cincinnati's next four games will be played at home. Wednesday's game vs. Milwaukee precedes a three-game weekend series vs. Oklahoma State.
