CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati baseball team snapped a five-game losing streak with a 14-4 run-rule victory against Milwaukee on Wednesday.

It's the second run-rule victory of the season for Cincinnati and the 10th time it has reached the double-digit run benchmark.

The Bearcats opened the scoring with three runs in the first inning, scoring all three without notching a hit, and Milwaukee responded with three in the top of the second to tie the game. The teams were tied at 4-4 heading into the bottom of the fifth before the offensive floodgates opened for UC. Two runs in the fifth were followed by two more in the sixth, three in the seventh, and three more in the eighth to seal the deal.

Four Bearcats had two-hit days against the Panthers: sophomore Cal Sefcik, freshman Quinton Coats, redshirt senior Dawson Hokuf, and redshirt freshman Charlie Niehaus. Junior Christian Mitchelle drove in a season high-tying three runs, two of which came on a triple in the fifth inning, and he was one of four players with a multi-RBI performance for UC. Junior Landyn Vidourek also drove in two and reached base three times, logging two steals in the process to bring his season total to 27 stolen bases. Hokuf and Sefcik drove in two runs apiece as well.

Vidourek and Sefcik each scored three times as well, which ties a career-high total for the latter.

On the mound, senior Adam Mrakitsch earned the win with four strong innings out of the bullpen. The lefty struck out five and didn't walk anyone, allowing just one run. Freshman Hudson Johnson struck out three in 2.2 scoreless innings.

Cincinnati will host Oklahoma State for a three-game Big 12 series this weekend.

// HOW IT HAPPENED
Cincinnati scored three runs in the bottom of the first without recording a hit. Landyn Vidourek scored on a wild pitch, Dawson Hokuf was plunked with the bases loaded, and Christin Mitchelle brought in a run on a sac fly to make it 3-0.

Milwaukee responded with three runs in the top of the second to make it 3-3. The first two runs scored on a single into left field, and the game was tied on a base hit that fell safely into center field.

Cal Sefcik put the Bearcats back on top in the bottom of the third on a solo homer, his fifth of the season.

The Panthers tied it again in the top of the fifth, but UC responded in the bottom half of the inning. With runners on first and second, Mitchelle drilled one to left field that hit off the wall and allowed him to get all the way to third with a two-RBI triple and put the score at 6-4.

The offensive onslaught continued as Cincinnati scored two more in the sixth, three in the seventh and three in the eighth. Charlie Niehaus blooped on into center field that scored Hokuf and brought in the 14th run of the game, enacting the 10-run rule in the bottom of the eighth to seal the victory.
