Track and Field Compiles Eight Podium Finishes on Final Day of Action at Big 12 Outdoor Championships

The University of Cincinnati men's and women's track and field teams finished the final day of action at the Big 12 Outdoor Championships hosted at the Rock Chalk Park on Saturday.

LAWRENCE, Kan. — The University of Cincinnati men's and women's track and field teams finished the final day of action at the Big 12 Outdoor Championships on Saturday hosted at Rock Chalk Park.
 
Cincinnati compiled eight podium finishes and eight more Bearcats recorded performances that ranked in UC's all-time top ten on the last day of competition. UC racked up a total of 20 medals over the span of the three day meet.
 
The UC women's squad finished in seventh place out of the 16-team field with 48 points. The men's team placed 12th with 34.33 points. Texas Tech dominated the competition, winning both the men's side with 136 points and the women's standings with 127 points.
 
Graduate students Astley Davis and Amanda Ngandu Ntumba both secured second-place finishes in their events. Davis soared to a season-best 16.11m in his podium performance. Ngandu Ntumba powered her throw to 59.38m to claim the runner-up spot.
 
Freshman Macaela Walker delivered standout performances in two events. She clocked a personal-best 13.13 seconds in the 100m hurdles for fourth place, a time that ranks third all-time in program history. Walker impressed again in the 400m hurdles, finishing seventh with a time of 57.54 seconds.
 
A pair of UC sprinters achieved personal bests in their events. Junior Kya Epps blazed to fourth place in the 200m dash with a time of 22.98 seconds. Sophomore Davenae Fagan secured fifth place in her race, crossing the line in 52.68 seconds.
 
In the 1500m, graduate student Jed Helker displayed impressive speed with a time of 3:40.67, finishing seventh in the competitive field.

The women's 4x100m relay team blazed to victory in Heat 1 with a blistering time of 44.78 seconds. The squad's commanding performance secured them sixth place overall in the final standings, placing them firmly on the podium after all heats concluded.
