Ngandu Ntumba Secures Ticket to NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships

The University of Cincinnati men's and women's track and field teams finished up the third day of action at the NCAA East First Round on Friday, hosted by the University of North Florida.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The University of Cincinnati men's and women's track and field teams finished up the third day of action at the NCAA East First Round on Friday, hosted by the University of North Florida.
 
Four Bearcats were in action on day three, with graduate student Amanda Ngandu Ntumba leading the way for Cincinnati.
 
// PUNCHING TICKETS TO EUGENE
Ngandu Ntumba secured her ticket to Eugene, Ore., for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. She earned an 11th-place finish in the women's shot put after recording a program record throw of 16.85m, surpassing Hall of Fame Bearcat Annette Echikunwoke's mark of 16.79m to claim the school record. 
 
The Saint-Étienne, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, native will join her shot put teammate Fred Moudani-Likibi in Eugene, as he qualified in the men's shot put on Thursday.
 
Ngandu Ntumba entered the NCAA First Rounds coming off an impressive showing at the Outdoor Big 12 Championships, placing third in the shot put with a heave of 16.33m. The talented thrower now holds the Bearcats' indoor (16.78m) and outdoor shot put records. She's now set to compete in the women's discus on Saturday at 1 p.m. ET, looking to qualify for the national stage in a second event.
 
// CLOSING OUT THE SEASON STRONG
Three Bearcats completed their impressive 2025 seasons.
 
An incredible 2025 campaign for graduate student Astley Davis has come to a close. He leaped 15.69m to claim 14th place in the triple jump, capping off his season. Davis excelled in indoor and outdoor competition throughout the season.
 
The Kingston, Jamaica, native showed out at the 2025 Outdoor Big 12 Championships, securing second place with a jump of 16.11m. Earlier in the year, during the indoor season, he earned All-America honors by finishing 14th in the triple jump (15.50m) at nationals and captured the Indoor Big 12 title with a leap of 15.79m. Davis also holds the Bearcats' indoor triple jump record at 16.22m.
 
Graduate student Korbin Spencer wrapped up an impressive career as a Bearcat with a 32nd-place finish in the discus, notching a throw of 51.74m. He also competed in the shot put on Thursday, where he delivered a heave of 18.26m to claim a 21st-place finish.
 
Closing out the third day of competition for Cincinnati was graduate student Jed Helker, who bolted around the lanes, punching a time of 3:47.66 to claim a 22nd-place finish in the 1,500m.
