CINCINNATI – Following his historic performance on Saturday that captured the attention of the college baseball community, Cincinnati redshirt senior Kerrington Cross received a pair of player of the week awards on Monday.
Cross was named the player of the week by the Golden Spikes Award and the Big 12 Conference. It's the second time this season he has earned the conference's weekly recognition, and it's also his second national player of the week honor. Cross was a Collegiate Baseball Player of the Week honoree in 2023.
Cross was incredible this past weekend at Kansas, hitting .529 (9-for-17) and slugging 1.059 to help the Bearcats sweep the nationally ranked Jayhawks on the road. Cross had at least two hits in all three games, but his masterpiece came in game two on Saturday.
We went 5-for-7 with three home runs, 10 RBI and collected 14 total bases in the 18-14 extra-inning victory. Cross etched his name into the record book with that game, setting a new single-game school record for RBI and tying the single-game home run and total base marks.
Cross' statistics this season are eye-popping across the board. He leads the Big 12 in batting average (.412) and on-base percentage (.535) and ranks third in slugging (.691), and he has logged 11 home runs, 44 RBI, 52 runs scored, and 38 strikeouts to just 24 strikeouts.
