CINCINNATI – Cincinnati’s Kerrington Cross was selected by the San Diego Padres in the seventh round of the 2025 MLB Draft on Monday.

The 220th overall pick in the draft, Cross is the second Bearcat to be drafted this year, joining teammate Landyn Vidourek was selected in the third round by the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday night. Cross is the 53rd player in school history to be selected in the MLB Draft.

Cross is the first Bearcat ever selected by the San Diego Padres in the MLB Draft.

The last time Cincinnati had multiple players picked in the MLB Draft was 2018 when Manny Rodriguez (10th Round), Cam Alldred (24th Round), and J.T. Perez (29th Round) were all selected. The only other time two Bearcats were both picked in the Top 10 rounds of the same draft was in 2008 when Josh Harrison went in the sixth round and Dan Osterbrock went in the seventh round.

“Kerrington is unequivocally one of the most successful student-athletes in the history of Cincinnati Baseball,” head coach Jordan Bischel said. “To cap his career off as the Big 12 Player of the Year while leading our program to our first at-large NCAA Tournament appearance in over 50 years is remarkable and leaves a legacy here. These experiences have Kerrington incredibly well prepared to be an extremely successful professional.”

Cross put together one of the best seasons ever by a Bearcat in 2025, earning Big 12 Player of the Year honors and four All-America nods, the most since Ian Happ’s six All-America honors in 2015. One of the best third basemen in the country, Cross was a Golden Spikes Award and Dick Howser Trophy semifinalist as well.

He hit .396 with 12 home runs, 50 RBI, 65 runs scored, 50 walks, a .647 slugging percentage, and a .526 on-base percentage. Cross ended the college baseball season ranking eighth in the nation in on-base percentage and 20th in batting average. In single-season school annals, his .526 OBP is the second-highest ever by a UC player, and his batting average is the eighth-highest.

Cross ended his career ranking third all-time in school history in runs scored (221), fourth in hits (260), fourth in home runs (41), fourth in triples (11), fifth in RBI (170), third in total bases (444), third in walks (153), and fifth in stolen bases (62) His 219 career games played rank eighth all-time.

He was a First Team All-Big 12 honoree this past season, his third all-conference nod as a Bearcat. He became the seventh player in school history to earn at least three all-conference honors.
