CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati women’s soccer team battled to a 1-1 draw with Toledo in its home opener on Sunday afternoon at Gettler Stadium.
The Bearcats move to 1-0-1 on the season.
Sophomore forward Rylee Felton picked up right where she left off after her stellar debut season. She broke past her defender in the 19th minute and fired a shot into the top-left corner of the net for the first goal of the match. The strike marked the eighth of her young career.
The Bearcats’ defense held the Rockets without a shot in the first 45 minutes of action. Meanwhile, the Bearcats generated four shots, two on goal, and earned five corner kicks before the break.
Toledo found the equalizer in the 66th minute to level the score.
Cincinnati finished with a 12-4 edge in total shots, an 8-2 advantage in shots on goal, and outpaced the Rockets 9-1 in corner kicks, but could not break through for the game-winner.
Up next, the Bearcats will travel to South Bend, Ind., to face Notre Dame on Thursday, Aug. 21. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.
