CINCINNATI – Following an outstanding season that ended with an at-large NCAA Tournament berth, University of Cincinnati baseball head coach Jordan Bischel has agreed to a contract extension.

Director of Athletics John Cunningham announced the agreement on Tuesday. Bischel’s extension will keep him with the Bearcats through the 2031 season.

In his two seasons at the helm of the Cincinnati Baseball program, Bischel has posted a 65-51 overall record and this past season propelled the team to its first NCAA Tournament trip since 2019, and the seventh overall in school history.

Cincinnati reached the 30-win plateau for the second straight season in 2025, the first time the program had won at least 30 games in consecutive seasons since doing it three straight years from 1999-2001. UC also captured six ranked wins, the most in a season in school history.

“Extending Coach Bischel’s contract was a top priority for our department,” Cunningham said. “We believe we have the ideal leader for Cincinnati Baseball. The culture Jordan has established and the buy-in from his student-athletes has been remarkable, and the energy around the program these past two years has been undeniable. With Coach Bischel at the helm, this is only the beginning of what’s ahead for Bearcats Baseball.”

Bischel’s preferred style of play has become a calling card for Cincinnati, which led all Power Four programs in bunt hits and ranked second in stolen bases this past season. UC was one of the most successful teams on the bases, posting a 90.5% success rate on stolen bases (134-for-148). The 134 stolen bases broke the previous single-season school record set in 2008, and the pitching staff tallied 496 strikeouts, breaking the single-season mark from 2019.

“Cincinnati has quickly become home for Katie, myself and our family,” Bischel said. “Along with our coaching staff, I am incredibly excited about the trajectory of our baseball program and athletics department. This agreement is a reflection of a shared vision of President Pinto, John Cunningham and his team, and our baseball staff. I am incredibly grateful and excited to be leading our baseball program for years to come.”

Bischel has helped mentor 11 different Bearcats to All-Big 12 honors in his first two seasons, including 2025 Big 12 Player of the Year Kerrington Cross. Cross was also a semifinalist for the Golden Spikes Award and Dick Howser Trophy, two national player of the year accolades.

Three Bearcats have been selected in the first ten rounds of the MLB Draft in Bischel’s first two seasons. Josh Kross was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in the sixth round in 2024, Landyn Vidourek was picked by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the third round earlier this year, and Cross was selected by the San Diego Padres in the seventh round this year as well.

The 2024 season, Bischel’s first at UC, saw the team post a 32-25 overall record and a 17-13 mark in conference play, the program’s first 30-win season since 2019. Cincinnati finished the regular season in fifth place in the Big 12, its first year in the league, after being picked to finish in last in the preseason coaches poll.

In 11 seasons as a head coach at the NCAA level, Bischel owns a 379-207 overall record.
