CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati women’s volleyball program extended its win streak to four after defeating Xavier on Tuesday night inside Fifth Third Arena.
The Bearcats (5-1) swept their crosstown rival behind an electric atmosphere of 2,208 fans.
Senior Carly Glendinning paced the attack with 16 kills, joined by junior Sydney Nolan’s 14. At the net, sophomore Andi Spies chipped in 36 assists, her fourth consecutive match over 30. Sophomore Lilly Gillespie provided stability in the backcourt with 11 digs.
Cincinnati remained in front for the full opening set, leading by as many as four. A solo block from Nolan forced a Xavier timeout (11-7). Out of the break, the Musketeers were able to bring it within three (14-11), but UC remained in control to take the first set 25-20.
UC carried that momentum into the second set, racing out to a 15-7 lead behind back-to-back kills and a block from Gretchen Sigman and Tatjana Simeunović. Xavier briefly closed the gap with a 4-0 run, but a late block sealed the 25-18 win for UC.
In the final set, the Bearcats surged ahead with six unanswered points, highlighted by four-straight kills from Glendinning (6-2). Back-to-back slams from Nolan put the Bearcats up six and forced a Xavier timeout. Xavier battled back to even the score at 13 and eventually took its first lead of the night at 16-15. The teams traded points through four ties, but the Bearcats pulled away late to secure the 25-20 victory and complete the sweep.
Cincinnati committed zero attack errors in the final frame.
