by Anthony Di Fino

On the heels of a successful home opener, here are the ways we're planning to improve in our second game at Nippert Stadium, Saturday at 3:30 p.m.

First and foremost, we thank our fans for coming out to Saturday With Us. Our fans make Nippert special! A great crowd, perfect weather and putting a W on the board made for a great Saturday.

As we welcomed fans back, we made changes to our stadium and operations. Gamedays are supposed to be fun, not stressful. We’re aware that new procedures and operations regarding tickets can cause some uncertainty, and we’re very thankful to our fans for your patience as we went through our first game together as a Ticketmaster partner. We believe our fans did a great job downloading their tickets to their wallets, and for the most part, entry procedures were relatively smooth.

As a reminder, finding a Fast Pass location can save you roughly 3-7 minutes upon gate entry, depending on the location and time. We strongly recommend that those coming from The Grid and entering through Gate J get a Fast Pass.

Based on immediate fan messages, surveys, and information collected at guest services, we recognize that we will never be perfect. However, your comments and feedback help us pivot to meet your needs.

Get ready for the two-minute drill! Here's a rapid-fire on the ways we’re planning to improve for Game 2, this Saturday at 3:30 p.m.:
  1. The bathroom trailers in the loading dock will be returned to their normal location for use by fans.
  2. We will add more help on The Grid. We have contracted with student groups and others to gather the necessary “runners” to quickly and smoothly unload fans to their Grid locations.
  3. We will have more help to distribute Fast Pass wristbands on the Grid. Fast Pass entry is located at Gate A, B, H & J. Some Fast Pass stations erroneously closed early last week. Fast Pass locations will remain open until 45 minutes prior to kickoff.
  4. We will have our Lifetime Financial Growth Commons Club available for all fans. This is a cash bar and snacks on Bearcats Commons, in front of TUC!
  5. We will work to have more picnic tables on Sheakley Lawn.
  6. We will adjust the videoboard placements of key pieces of information, such as down and distance, ball location and other stats that our fans need.
  7. We will have the area behind the tennis courts available for fans with concessions.
  8. We will have more hawkers for this game, and they will be clearly identified by yellow shirts. The issue we encountered last weekend was the hawkers’ inability to reach the stands due to demand on the concourses. We believe we can resolve this issue by increasing staffing levels.
  9. Wi-Fi and cellular service significantly slowed down our ability to transact concessions in a timely manner. We are in contact with university IT to help remedy this issue ahead of Saturday’s game. We have made adjustments and we will see faster turn-times at stands. As this is a crucial aspect of our gameday, which involves a complex deliverable, we appreciate your patience as we collaborate with our vendors who have contracted with UC. We can assure fans that we have had several conversations with Verizon. We are also in contact with other carriers to deliver a solution for our gamedays.
  10. We are in contact with the elevator company to repair the elevators that malfunctioned prior to the game.

If you haven't yet had an opportunity to voice your feedback, feel free to reach out to our new Director of Fan Experience Sydney Shelton at sheltsw@ucmail.uc.edu.

Some notes to clarify:
  1. We understand that fans are looking for more affordable beer options, so we'll be offering cheaper beer during pregame. For fans at the AD Tailgate, at The Grid, or at the Lifetime Financial Growth Commons Club, find 12oz beer for $5, 16oz beer for $7 and 24oz beer for $12.
  2. That said, the price of beer inside the stadium did not significantly increase. We have diversified our offerings and now offer 24oz beverages, compared to the 16oz beverages from last year.
  3. We will have additional opportunities to purchase 16oz beverages located in coolers and grab & go stations throughout the stadium.
  4. For those concerned about the cost of non-alcoholic items, we offer two new 513 Stands, where items are priced at $5, $1, and $3. The menu includes hot food items, such as hot dogs, as well as other items like popcorn and candy.
  5. "Runners" for The Grid (mentioned above) are based on our ability to identify groups that are interested in participating. We work hard to find reliable and committed groups to help on gamedays. If you have a group that would like to help on gamedays, especially if it's a student group or non-profit looking to raise money for your cause, please contact us!
