CINCINNATI – Cincinnati redshirt senior linebacker Jake Golday was named Big 12 Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday following his performance vs. Nebraska last Thursday.
Golday logged 12 tackles and a sack in the season-opening tilt vs. the Cornhuskers, which was played at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City. The 12 tackles are his career-high in a Cincinnati uniform and just two off his overall career-high total. His sack in the fourth quarter forced Nebraska into a 3rd-and-long that led to a punt, giving the Bearcats the ball back late in the game.
Golday’s 12 tackles were the most of any Big 12 player that recorded a sack this past weekend.
An honorable mention All-Big 12 player last year, Golday is a weekly award winner for the second time since coming to Cincinnati. He earned Newcomer of the Week honors after last year’s win at UCF.
Cincinnati hosts Bowling Green this Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at Nippert Stadium for its home opener.
